Calling all Clans  -  Rise and be that Nation again!

Edinburgh Gathering

The first gathering of the Clans was held at the Edinburgh festival tournament, Fettes college Edinburgh 2nd-3rd August 2008.

A limited squad participated in the inaugural Edinburgh Tournament, due to lack of general availability and last minute drop outs, causing a disappointing 4th place finish.

THOSE WHO MADE IT - Phil Smart (Keeper - Aberdeen) / Chris Stott / Dan Heighway / Rob Powell / Giles Davidson / Andrew Brickell / Steve Shanahan / Matt Anderton / Rob Mitchell.  WITH APPEARANCES FROM - Neil (Glasgow keeper) and Resham

Eight players, not including a keeper, met up on the Saturday morning for the first game.  Two wins and a loss on the first day, with thanks to a Glasgow outfield player, Neil ? (already seconded to the Glasgow goal from outfield) and kidnapped by the Clans to help us out for the first couple of games, followed by the arrival after a long drive for the Aberdeen Keeper Phil Smart for the final game of the day set up a semi final game against the eventual winning team, Scotland A, on Sunday.  Having already lost 1 player to injury on Saturday with a broken foot, Rasta, the game was started with no subs.  The loss of another player, Shanny, to injury within a few minutes, despite trying to continue, was in effect the end of our tournament hopes.  Scotland A kindly loaned us a player to continue the game, thanks Resham, however we were no match for Scotland A's superior organisation and fitness.  The Glasgow keeper previously kidnapped, Neil, was now seconded as an outfield player to give us 8 for the 3rd / 4th play off game.  It had all gotten a little strange by this time losing by a goal in a close game to "two in a canoe" leaving us with 4th place.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the weekend and are looking forward to next years event.  Fantastic venue for Lacrosse in a great City hopefully with more teams participating next year should just get better - put it in your diaries!

Players WANTED

Ancient Clans will be a social / tour team entering various tournaments in both the UK and abroad, such as the Edinburgh Festival / Blues Fest / Vail shootout and Hawaii

Selection for the Ancient Clans squad will be predominately based on players who have represented the Scotland National team in the past and is also available to current players.  Any other player who is eligible to play for Scotland but may not yet have been selected for the main squad will also be considered.

As we will not be playing in a representative capacity where required a few select guest players may be invited to join us.

GOLF DAY 2008

Sponsored by

Supported by Hole / competition sponsors

Ian Ballantine - Walcountian Blues Lacrosse

Sixteen players Tee'd off on Tuesday 22nd July at the Pike Fold GC, Bury.  Despite the overcast weather and some light drizzle throughout the day (compared to previous years some of us had the sun cream out) all seemed please with the days events.

Many thanks to all those who supported us by playing in the event and also to our main sponsor Atrium Telecom and the hole sponsors CD Stone and Ian Ballantine.  Also thanks to Pike Fold GC and staff for a very friendly and well prepared venue.  Special thanks go to the catering staff, many good comments have been made on the high standard of food provided (especially the pie!).

Future events will be advertised on these pages in the near future.  It is hoped to have a "weekend" event next year incorporating 2 or 3 rounds at a couple of Golf clubs culminating at a famous Open venue.
